Food Giant Kraft Heinz Comes to East Netherlands

Hundreds of new jobs expected with the arrival of a new European distribution center for US-based food company Kraft Heinz (KHC)

The US food giant Kraft Heinz is working with local partner Nabuurs Supply Chain Solutions in locating its European distribution center (EDC) in the Arnhem-Nijmegen region in East Netherlands. Kraft Heinz has made the decision to locate its distribution center closer to its factory in Elst, also in this region, in order to provide more efficient service to clients in Benelux, Germany, Austria and Scandinavia. This new center is expected to result in an economic boost of hundreds of new jobs for the region.

Nabuurs Solutions, the large provider of global logistic solutions to companies located in the Netherlands, has been working to offer new service solutions to Kraft Heinz at the Park15 industrial location. They have been working together with the Giesbers Group, builder and developer of industrial locations, which has in turn enlisted the Goodman Group, a worldwide owner, developer and manager of industrial real estate locations. Their project is a new EDC of 61,700 m2 for the logistic services provider Nabuurs. This project is one of the largest logistic real estate projects of the past year in the Netherlands.

The new facilities will be located at the business park Park15, in the city of Wijchen (Arnhem-Nijmegen), where construction is slated shortly to begin. Goodman will retain title and Nabuurs will enter into a rental contract with them once construction is completed. This is expected to occur in the beginning of 2017. The local contractor Giesbers will manage the development of the EDC on turnkey assignment from Goodman.

Nabuurs will use this new A-Class distribution center as a Shared Service Center for a number of clients in addition to Kraft Heinz, but the majority of the building will be reserved for this food giant based in Chicago (U.S.). The sustainably designed EDC will have 3,000 m2 of temperature controlled space, and 1,435 m2 of office, meeting and technical support space. The new facilities will be fitted with LED lighting combined with motion sensors in order to keep the CO2 impact as low as possible.

“With this new distribution center from Goodman and Giesbers we can expand our company at this strategic location in order to offer better service to one of our most important clients,” says Ard Nabuurs, the Commercial Director of Nabuurs. “In addition, the technical solutions that Goodman is offering allow us to lower our energy costs and to optimize our logistic and transport service streams. The result is an additional improvement in our operational efficiency.”

During the transaction phase all parties were advised by Oost NV. Nabuurs also received advice from Den Outer Vastgoed, and Park15 through CBRE.
